A new book coming out on Thursday claims that a Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) agent smuggled a 15-year-old into Syria and the United Kingdom (UK) covered it up..The London Metropolitan Police (LMP) allegedly knew that a double agent for CSIS and the Islamic State trafficked Shamima Begum and two of her friends out of the UK..Begum went with Amira Abase, 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, travelled to Syria in 2015. Sultana was killed in a Russian military attack, while Abase is still missing..The LMP did a massive international search for the girls and Canada did not tell the UK about its involvement in their disappearance..The book The Secret History of the Five Eyes, written by Richard Kerbaj, claims Canada was concerned about its young people joining the Islamic State and recruited human trafficker Mohammed al-Rashed when he applied for asylum at the Canadian embassy in Jordan..Rashed helped dozens of jihadists and their brides get into Syria and report who was trafficked back to the Canadian government..Rashed photographed all the trafficked individuals’ passports, telling them he needed “proof of identity” to buy transport tickets and took the images to CSIS at the Jordan embassy..In 2015, Turkey arrested Rashed and Canada believed that its cover would be blown as he was found with travel documents including the bus tickets for the three UK girls..A few weeks after Rashed was arrested, CSIS met with Commander Richard Walton, the Metropolitan Police’s head of counterterrorism, and admitted their involvement in smuggling the three UK girls into Syria. .The UK decided not to publicize Canada’s involvement in the trafficking because it could compromise current efforts to infiltrate new informants into the Islamic State..Begum wants to go back to the UK, but the Home Secretary at that time Sajid Javid took away her British citizenship, claiming she was a threat to national security..The Begum family's lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee, asked for a public inquiry into Canada’s and the UK's involvement..“Britain has lauded its efforts to stop the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the grooming of our children by spending millions of pounds on the Prevent programme and online monitoring,” said Akunjee..“However, at the very same time we have been cooperating with a western ally, trading sensitive intelligence with them whilst they have effectively been nabbing British children and trafficking them across the Syrian border for delivery to ISIS all in the name of intelligence-gathering.”
