Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer held a press conference on May 17, during which he acknowledged the uptick in gang-related violence, adding how he did not expect it to stop anytime soon..To the surprise of no one, Palmer was correct. The violence carried on with the most recent public shooting taking place on Friday..Alvis Anjesh Singh, 44, was found fatally wounded inside his vehicle across from River Front Park, near his Southeast Vancouver home..This is the eighth homicide of the year falling within the city of Vancouver’s jurisdiction..“Investigators believe the suspects vehicle, which was a silver SUV with a sunroof, drove eastbound on Kent Avenue after the shots were fired,” VPD media officer Const. Tania Visintin said in a press release..“Minutes later a burnt out SUV was found by Sexsmith Elementary School located on West 59th Avenue and Ontario Street..“The investigation is still in its preliminary stages, however investigators believe the burnt-out vehicle is probably connected to the homicide.”.A torched vehicle is located after most gang related hits in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland..No arrests have been made at this time and police are looking for what they believe to be a group of three people who were in the silver SUV..Vancouver Police have stated this was a targeted incident, and while they have not officially confirmed whether or not it is part of “the current gang conflict,” VPD did allude to Singh was known to them..Court records confirm Singh had a 2002 conviction for drug trafficking..The murder of Singh this past weekend is the first fatal bloodshed this month in what has been a bloody year for gang violence.
