Amber Heard's motion to reopen the defamation trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp was tossed Wednesday along with arguments against the verdict.Heard's proposal was to retry the case on the claim one of the jurors committed fraud and that the case had insufficient evidence against her.Heard's legal team alleged a juror was not vetted properly, and appeared on the jury in place of his father who he lives with and shares the same name."The court made clear that Juror 15 was summoned by name and address and that his birthdate was not listed on the summons," said prior LA Deputy District Attorney Emily Baker on Twitter."The Juror questionnaire had his proper birthdate."Court documents show Judge Penny Azcarate denied the motion to have the verdict thrown out.A 43-page memorandum was filed against the court verdict and claimed Depp "'proceeded solely on a defamation by implication theory, abandoning any claims that Ms. Heard's statements were actually false," reported Daily Mail.Heard also claimed she cannot pay the damages demanded by the verdict in a Virginia court on June 1, 2022.Both celebrities were found to have defamed each other in the June verdict, but the conclusion swayed considerably in Depp's favor. Depp was awarded US$10 million for damages and $5 million for punitive damages, but lost in a defamation case against Heard who was awarded $2 million in damages and nothing in punitive damages. But in Virginia, punitive damages are capped at $350,000, meaning Heard owes Depp $8,350,000.She argued the damages to Depp were far too large and outside of what the case was concerning.During the two years between Depp's alleged abuse of Heard was published in the Washington Post and when a UK court ruled the abuse to be true, the motion argued Depp did not make any efforts to record alleged damages.
