There are now 24 Manitoba municipalities that declared emergencies because of flooding and several First Nations, including Peguis First Nation, where more than 1,110 residents were evacuated on Sunday..The latest municipalities declaring emergencies are Coldwell, Emerson-Franklin, MacDonald, Norfolk Treherne, Whitemouth and Woodlands..The municipality of Emerson-Franklin, near the border with North Dakota, expects flooding to be as high as the 2009 flood, which was the worst flood on the North Dakota side of the border. .”Residents are reminded to not travel through water that is over the roads as the road may be washed out under the water,” a municipality of Emerson-Franklin news release said..“Provincial crews are deployed to Emerson and Dominion City running pumping operations, as well as implementing ring dike closures.” .The Interlake region is experiencing overland flooding from the Icelandic River that feeds into Lake Winnipeg..Many roads are washed out in the municipality of Bifrost-Riverton located about 100 km north of Winnipeg..Brian Johnson, Bifrost-Riverton Reeve, said that it has washed out a lot of the gravel roads..“It washed out all the driveways all the way down, and the water just gushing out … really caused a lot of problems,” said Johnson..Johnson said that a large greenhouse near highways 7 and 68 is underwater and some of the houses..“I think that most of them are OK.
