The self-styled Mohawk Warriors who have been blockading the CN rail tracks near Belleville keep shouting things like “Get off our land!” at the OPP officers who are now guarding the tracks at that crossing. Back on February 8, they reportedly made the grandiose claim that “no trains will pass through our land until the RCMP gets out of Wet’suwet’en territory” in BC. . Photo-1 .But when you look at the location of the blockade on Google Maps, you see that the CN tracks do not actually run across the reservation lands. The blockade was at the intersection of the tracks with Wyman Road in Deseronto. Here’s a screen shot of Google’s aerial view of that spot, with a small white pin stuck in to show the intersection. (Locator numbers: 44.219783-77.148909) (photo 1). Photo-2 .Now here’s Google’s map showing the boundaries of the Tyendinaga Reserve. Note that the CN tracks don’t appear to run across the reserve land except possibly in one tiny place. (photo 2) .Finally, here’s a close-up of the place where the CN tracks appear to cross the reserve. It looks as though an exclusion was especially carved out of the reserve lands for the railroad tracks to cross. (photo 3). . Photo-3-1 .So when the “warriors” claim some sort of moral right to block the trains crossing “their” land, they are even more full of sh*t than I previously believed them to be. .The author of this letter to the editor is kept anonymous for safety concerns
