Medical students in Alberta and across the country have been caught in a strange COVID-19 vaccine purgatory..While unvaccinated students are now able to return to their post-secondary institutions in Alberta, most are unable to access their residency or training placements in AHS facilities and private medical clinics..Many of those students started their programs well before the pandemic and the mandatory vaccine policies were put in place and have invested a great deal of time and money into their studies..Calgary lawyer James Kitchen, along with four Alberta students, including Will Teichgraber, Jeff Lafranchise, Monica Martin and a student who asked to remain anonymous, spoke with the Western Standard about their circumstances..Teichgraber is a dentistry student, Lafranchise is studying to be a dietician and the unnamed student did not want her faculty mentioned. All are students at the University of Alberta. Martin is making her way through SAIT’s sonography program..The Western Standard published an exclusive story last week highlighting the situation many medical students in Alberta have found themselves in.
