The province’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a youth following an “interaction” with a Creston, BC RCMP officer..The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC says, as per information provided by RCMP, an officer was conducting a vehicle check shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on a black pickup truck parked in the driveway of a residence in the 3400-block of View Road..RCMP says the the truck reversed as the officer exited their own vehicle, striking the unnamed Mountie who then discharged their weapon..Roughly 10 minutes later the truck was found in a ditch near Highway 3A and Mather Road. The driver, a 16-year-old boy, was suffering from a gunshot wound..Police and Emergency Health Services provided medical assistance, but the youth was pronounced dead at the scene..“No other information concerning the interaction between police and the truck driver has been independently verified at the time of writing,” said IIO..“The particulars of what occurred in the driveway are the subject of the IIO investigation.”
