A 19-year-old student is in “grave condition” after a Purolator courier van collided with a BC Transit bus near Castlegar, British Columbia last week..The accident happened Thursday just after 4:30 p.m. on Highway 3A, says BC Highway Patrol (BCHP)..The eastbound bus was transporting 16 students visiting from Quebec as part of a Selkirk College program when it was struck by the courier cube van..The 19-year-old was sitting close to the window where the van hit the victim..After her classmates attempted life-saving first aid, the injured student was transported to Trail Regional Hospital and then Kelowna General Hospital where she remains on life support..BCHP says the young woman is not expected to survive..Officers closed Highway 3A for several hours while evidence was gathered from the vehicles involved, and the van’s driver remained on scene..In hopes of determining why the courier driver crossed over the centre line, police want to speak to anyone who has information or dashboard camera video of any pre-collision activity in the area..Footage from the BC Transit bus showed a blue two-door coupe, a silver SUV, and an older grey Pathfinder driving behind the courier. Police say these drivers may have relevant information and asks them, as well as anyone else with information, to call BCHP Nelson at 250-354-5180 and cite file 2022-3153..RCMP Victim Assistance and counsellors from Selkirk College are helping the students involved.
