The United Conservative Party (UCP) says it's time to clean up the streets in Lethbridge..The UCP said a reelected United Conservative government will not let crime and disorder continue growing and will take a firm approach to make Alberta streets and transit systems safer, while also supporting those struggling with mental health and addiction..The UCP noted a re-elected UCP government will take significant steps to help restore safety for Alberta’s cities, communities and families through the Safe Streets Action Plan..“We’re saying enough is enough, safety on our streets is not negotiable,” said UCP candidate Nathan Neudorf for Lethbridge-East.“We will do whatever we can to address the broken bail system, fight back against gang violence, crack down on the fentanyl and illegal-gun trade, and keep violent and sexual offenders off our streets.”.The UCP said Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley and her NDP have made it clear that the safety of Albertans is not a priority.."The NDP and their slate of defund-the-police candidates have spent the past four years insulting our officers with slanderous comments and advocating for policies that would overrun our streets with dangerous drugs, funded by taxpayers," the UCP said.."This includes the NDP candidate for Lethbridge-East, who advocated to cut the Lethbridge police budget by a million dollars.".Neudorf said the NDP has "no credibility" when it comes to advocating for the safety of Albertans and will simply follow along with the Liberal-NDP alliances’ soft approach to tackling crime..“A re-elected UCP government will never be so flippant with the safety of Albertans. A government’s job is to protect its citizen, and the NDP has made it clear that Albertans cannot trust them to do that," Neudorf said..Over the past four years, the UCP government said it took meaningful steps to reduce crime and address the root causes of it..User fees have been removed to access addiction treatment beds and recovery communities are being built across the province. This includes a Lethbridge recovery community, which will be opening to the public shortly..More sheriffs have been deployed in our major cities and the Edmonton and Calgary Public Safety Task Forces have been established, bringing together key stakeholders in both cities to implement measures to reduce crime and disorder in our major cities..The UCP said a United Conservative government will put criminals on notice that Albertans will no longer tolerate being harassed, frightened, or victimized and will do whatever it takes for Albertans to feel safe on their streets, in their homes, in their communities, and on public transit.
