Feminists have long lamented how hard they must fight to purge the sexism, racism, bias, and lack of gender parity they claim permeates politics..They blame the old boys’ club, oozing with toxic masculinity, for denying women support and positions of power..Well, now these fem-types can lace up their sensible shoes, do a victory dance, and cheer on some sisters in a groundbreaking Alberta political race..A record half of the candidates in the race to lead the United Conservative Party (UCP) and become the next premier are women. .Four women (two of color from minority backgrounds) are in to win the October 6 leadership election..They include former Wildrose Party leader Danielle Smith; former transportation and community and social services minister Rajan Sawhney; former multiculturalism and status of women minister Leela Aheer; and former children’s services minister Rebecca Shultz..It was a three-way male-only 2017 UCP leadership race..Anytime now, a chorus of feminist voices surely will rise in unity from academia and media to hail this shattered glass ceiling..That’s what feminists do. They hail important women-related minority and sexist-barrier political breakthroughs..Waiting…waiting… still waiting for that shrill euphoric cry. Nope, nothing. .Oh, of course. Sisterhood doesn’t apply here..Wrong political party..Maybe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau isn’t the only fake feminist prancing around..Trudeau declared himself a feminist supreme, bragged about his equality agenda, and praised strong women in his Liberal ranks..Trudeau appointed some women who weren’t qualified for their jobs, still aren’t, and never will be..But when qualified women dared exhibit strength, he crushed them. Cabinet ministers Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott stood up to him on principle, so Trudeau ejected them from caucus..Well, well, Trudeau exhibited feminist traits after all. The worst kind..Rambo fems, for all their bleating about sisterhood and fighting for all women, aim for the jugular of women who don’t embrace their radical views..Well-paid feminists, who write long papers ranting about injustices inflicted on women, are selective about the types of women they rally behind..Granted, if a woman wins, she’ll be the third female premier in Alberta following the NDP’s Rachel Notley in 2015 and the Progressive Conservative Party’s Alison Redford in 2011..One could argue feminists don’t think another woman at the helm is a big deal anymore..It isn’t. It shouldn’t be. Personally, don’t care about gender. It’s about the best candidate for the job..But this is about hypocrisy..Feminists fear strong female Conservative politicians..A true Conservative premier might fixate on fiscal responsibility and end huge taxpayer dollars squandered on useless gender-studies and projects that achieve zip to help women..Or promote family values, respect stay-at-home mothers, and those church-going types..Or perhaps math and science would trump the gender ed and Critical Race Theory garbage polluting children’s minds, forcing changes to Alberta’s education curriculum..Inflation, the carbon tax, vaccine mandates and lockdowns, equality for Alberta, or rights for legal gun owners might be more important than fabricated victimhood and transgender madness..The UCP candidates haven’t addressed all the above issues..But the threat that the next premier might listen to what most Albertans want, and sift out what they don’t, is there..If this was an NDP or Liberal leadership race, feminists would be howling with joy over the record number of female candidates. Media outlets would assign legions to report on the wonder of it all. .Leading up to Manitoba’s 2021 Progressive Conservative Party leadership vote, enough couldn’t be said about women facing off — now Premier Heather Stefanson and Shelly Glover..Jubilation erupted when former Liberal Ontario premier Kathleen Wynn was elected premier in 2014..Wynn won the leadership race when Dalton McGuinty resigned in 2012. She helped accrue a massive $12.5 billion deficit yet when elected she was breathlessly hailed by one news outlet as “the saviour of the party’s flock” who heroically fended off accusations of corruption and mismanagement..Premier Doug Ford demolished St. Wynn in 2018..When Notley won the 2015 election, salivating media and academics couldn’t gush enough about the it or the historic number of 27 women elected to the Alberta Legislature..Organizations like Equal Voices, dedicated to putting more women on the ballot, celebrated. .Yay women! Hear them roar. .Nary a peep from a lot of those girls now..When Kenney defeated Notley in 2019, one university professor lamented to a reporter that female premiers like Wynn and Notley tend to not win second mandates because they are “sacrificial lambs” of parties in crisis. .That they contributed to the crisis is irrelevant. .It’s never about their bad policies, or poor performances. That left’s feminist mantra kicks in to portray them as ‘victims’ citing inequality, misogyny, and double standards in a man’s world..Policies and performance will be paramount in dissecting the UCP female candidates..Good. They should be..They don’t deserve more or less attention than the male contenders — former finance minister Travis Toews, Independent Todd Loewen, former Wildrose leader Brian Jean, and Amisk Mayor Bill Rock..Despite there being countless successful women in all levels of politics for decades, endless feminist studies, panels, papers, and conferences still decry the persecuted plight of women in politics, .There’s apparently still a gender war to fight..Is there really? Or is it all about power and agendas and holding onto lucrative contracts to push a partisan narrative..In 2019, the Calgary group Ask Her made a big splash about getting more women into municipal politics and tackling gender awareness. .That same year, a House of Commons committee made 14 recommendations to combat the under-representation of women in politics..And now with a groundbreaking number of female UCP leadership contenders — crickets..Again, wrong political party..Meanwhile, voters just want the best candidate to win — male or female.
