A peaceful protest is starting to form outside of the Fort Macleod RCMP station demanding that area resident Alex Van Herk be let go as he has been "detained" by the RCMP..According to a protester at the station, "The crowd is peacefully friendly" and are starting to gather to support Van Herk who has been "detained" by the RCMP..Van Herk became involved in the Coutts border blockade which happened during the winter in Alberta. He was also part of the GraceLife church protests. .The protester, who's name has been withheld, said "He's being detained because he won't sign certain paperwork which would essentially implicate him for things he's not guilty of.".According to reports by True North, Van Herk’s life-long friend Marco Van Huigenbos, said he is refusing to sign a condition to end contact with Van Huigenbos who was also involved with the Coutts blockade..The RCMP told True North an individual is in custody in Fort MacLeod, but said they "can’t release specifics, including names, until charges are laid.".Van Herk turned himself into the RCMP on Thursday afternoon. ."I am here to to protest, this man should be allowed to go back to his family and not be made a political prisoner," the protester told the Western Standard..As this is a developing story, the Western Standard will bring you more information when available..More to come...
