An environmental activist group is targeting 4x4 SUVs in the City of Edmonton..On Sunday, according to CTV NEWS, Edmonton resident Brandee Rintoul found two tires on her Honda SUV flattened, along with a note apparently from "The Tyre Extinguishers.".According to The Tyre Extinguishers website, the group includes people from all walks of life with one aim: To make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4x4 in the world’s urban areas.."SUVs are unnecessary, and pure vanity," the note left on her windshield read.."We are taking actions into our own hands because our governments and politicians will not.".EPS confirmed tires on 13 vehicles were slashed in the Delwood area of northwest Edmonton Sunday night..READ MORE: Environmental group 'Tyre Extinguishers' deflating SUV tires in Greater Victoria.In August, the Western Standard reported group members deflated tires on 34 SUVs, noting the damage is “just the beginning” in British Columbia.."We are defending ourselves against climate change, air pollution, and unsafe drivers," the Extinguishers stated on its website.."We do this with a simple tactic: Deflating the 'tyres' of these massive, unnecessary vehicles, causing inconvenience for their owners. Deflating 'tyres' repeatedly and encouraging others to do the same will turn the minor inconvenience of a flat 'tyre' into a giant obstacle for driving massive killer vehicles around our streets.".According to CTV News, Rintoul pumped up her tires and said she's not changing vehicles, but will probably install security cameras on her home in the McQueen neighbourhood.."The (vandals) don’t know why people pick the vehicle they drive. It’s not necessarily that I picked this because it’s a gas guzzler or whatever," Rintoul told CTV News Edmonton.."My sister and I do a lot of stuff together, our two families, on the weekends and stuff. So one of the reasons I bought this is because it fits her family and mine. So rather than taking two vehicles to the lake, we take one.".According to the group's website, the group claims it doesn't have a leader and government failure is one of the reasons behind the vandalism.."We’re taking this action because governments and politicians have failed to protect us from these huge vehicles. Everyone hates them, apart from the people who drive them," the group said.."We want to live in towns and cities with clean air and safe streets. Politely asking and protesting for these things has failed. It’s time for action.
