The Town of Cochrane has declared a state of emergency to allow authorities to take extraordinary measures to deal with its wastewater problems. “As a result of the water and wastewater incident on Saturday, October 21 and the uncontrolled impacts to the Town of Cochrane’s water reservoir supply, our water reservoirs are at critical levels,” said Town of Cochrane Emergency Co-ordination Centre Director Shawn Polley in a Tuesday press release. “These levels directly impact our ability to provide water to the community and ensure the required water resources to support emergency fire suppression, if required.”If water consumption continues at the current levels, Polley said he anticipates some communities might soon be without water. The Town of Cochrane said it is working with its regional partners. A state of emergency provides the town with the power to direct and control its response efforts and co-ordinate with the Alberta government. It will require everyone’s immediate co-operation.
