The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have captured and charged an alleged pigeon thief..On October 21, the EPS posted a video to social media of a bird-napping suspect caught on camera stealing 45 pigeons from a Cavanagh backyard..In the pigeon post by EPS, the video shows a man looking around a large enclosure in the yard and carrying a medium-sized cage around 9:30 p.m..He appeared to enter the enclosure and maybe thought it was coo to bird-nap the white pigeons. He can been seen leaving with a large cage full of birds.."Public tips led to the identification of the suspect," said Cheryl Voordenhout for EPS media relations..The birds were competition pigeons worth about $13,500, not your average street pigeons. The alleged thief must have studied egg-onomics to determine their high flying value..On Friday, a 32-year-old male was arrested and charged with theft over $5000..The EPS did not release the man's name.."In total, 12 birds were recovered, with two found dead," Voordenhout said..A week later, after the video was posted by EPS, some of the high-flying competition pigeons wearing ankle bracelets began showing up in Strathcona County..They have since been returned to the owner..Anyone with further information is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.
